This reminds me of an excellent book, Wayfinding by Michael Bond. Wayfinding, or route following, is a very basic capability, clearly evolved given its one we share with other creatures. Using apps to navigate seems to be already having a serious affect on our cognitive capabilities, a point he only touches on in his epilogue, and well worth exploring further
